Embrace Your DIY Spirit and Beauty
In a recent group coaching session led by Emily, a Field Development Manager from Color Street, we were all asked to bring a photo of our younger selves and contemplate what words of wisdom we would share with that innocent, wide-eyed child staring back at us. While I initially shared a few thoughts, I couldn’t help but feel compelled to dive deeper into the message I would convey to my younger self. It’s moments like these that remind me of the incredible privilege it is to be part of a company like Color Street—a company that genuinely cares about nurturing strong individuals and supporting our stylists in ways that extend far beyond sales.
Dear Young Ailene,
I hope this letter finds you well, and I trust you’re still basking in the glow of your first communion. It’s been quite a journey from that day to where we are now, but I want to take a moment to reflect on a particular memory from that time that I’m sure you haven’t forgotten – the day you decided to give yourself a haircut!
I remember it like it was yesterday. You were at the playground, laughing, playing, and having the time of your life. But then, the realization struck you: you had forgotten your hair appointment, and your bangs were getting longer and longer. Panic set in, and in a moment of spontaneous courage, you decided to take matters into your own hands – quite literally! You snipped away at those bangs, creating a unique hairstyle that left you a little scared of what Mom would say. Thankfully, Clio could still fit you in to straighten up those bangs!
Guess what, Ailene? That DIY spirit you displayed that day will serve you well throughout your life. You’ll often find yourself faced with challenges and uncertainties, but your willingness to roll up your sleeves and tackle things head-on will be your greatest asset. You’ll learn that it’s okay to be scared of what others might think, but you’ll also discover that doing the hard things anyway is how you’ll grow and develop into the amazing person you’re destined to become.
And speaking of hair, well, it’s safe to say you’ll always have a bit of a love-hate relationship with it. But here’s the beautiful part: you will come to embrace your unique beauty. You’ll learn that God created you with intention, and every quirk and every imperfection is part of what makes you wonderfully you. Your hair may be a source of frustration at times, but it will also be a canvas for self-expression and a reminder of your resilience.
So, my dear younger self, as you look at that first communion picture with your super short haircut, remember this: the girl in that photo is full of potential, determination, and a whole lot of spunk. Don’t be afraid to keep being yourself, even when it means doing things that might seem a little crazy. You’re on a remarkable journey, and every step, every haircut, and every choice you make will lead you to where you’re meant to be.
With all the love and grace from the years that lie ahead,
