Aurora Borealis

A Majestic Night Under the Northern Lights

As I gazed up at the sky, I was overwhelmed by the breathtaking sight of the aurora borealis, dancing gracefully across the darkness. It brought back memories of late-night adventures with my children, watching meteor showers parked on potato field roads during our homeschooling days up in Fargo, ND. But this time, I found myself alone, parked on the side of the road, marveling at the celestial display.
It had been nearly 20 years since those homeschooling nights, and as I looked up at the sky, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder and nostalgia. The vibrant colors painted across the heavens seemed to sing a silent hymn of praise, and in that moment, I found myself humming the worship classic, “Majesty.”
I had only seen a large display of the aurora borealis one time before, when I was driving to work in La Crosse from Winona. The green and purple dance in the sky over the Mississippi River was unlike anything I had ever seen before. Tonight, the undulating ribbons of light seemed to reach down from the heavens, wrapping the world in a cloak of ethereal splendor. When looking through the camera lens, the colors became more vibrant than what my naked eyes could take in. It was a sight that made my heart soar and my spirit sing.
Did you see the May 10 Aurora dance in the sky?
As I stood there, lost in the majesty of the moment, I couldn’t help but think of my dad. He had always been a lover of nature, and I knew that he would have been awestruck by the sight before me. I like to think that he was up there, looking down on me, smiling as I marveled at the beauty of the northern lights.
In that moment, the heavens themselves were declaring the glory of God. It was a reminder of the beauty and wonder that surrounds us, if only we take the time to look up and see it.
So, as I stood there beneath the shimmering lights of the aurora borealis, I said a silent thank you to my dad, for instilling in me a love of nature and a sense of wonder at the world around us. And I made a promise to myself to not let the beauty of this world pass me by.
For in moments like these, we are reminded that there is magic in the world if only we open our eyes and look for it. And tonight, as I stood beneath the northern lights, I was reminded once again of the beauty and majesty of the world we live in.
This experience also made me reflect on the importance of dreaming and achieving our goals. Just like witnessing the aurora borealis was a dream of mine, and so many around me, there are many other dreams waiting to be realized. Whether it’s watching the northern lights, traveling to far-off lands, or pursuing a passion, it’s essential to hold onto those dreams and take steps towards achieving them. As I stood there beneath the dancing lights of the aurora borealis, I was reminded that with determination and perseverance, even the most extraordinary dreams can become a reality.  Sometimes you just have to take the time to dream them, then set the path and commit to consistent action.  Dreams becoming reality is even more beautiful than the Aurora Borealis!
