There’s a song that’s been close to my heart for years—Steven Curtis Chapman’s “Great Adventure.” It was the first contemporary Christian song that Steve and I both heard that introduced us to a whole new world beyond the traditional hymns we grew up with. It ignited a faith journey that has spanned decades, one full of growth, challenges, and beautiful moments of grace.

Just as “Great Adventure” set the tone for our faith, the desert has set the tone for many of our life’s greatest adventures. For decades, we’ve made our way to the Sonoran Desert, hiking through the Superstition Mountains, Usery, and San Tans while visiting family in Mesa. The desert may seem barren to some, but for me, it’s full of life, beauty, and unexpected wonders.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on words from the prophet Isaiah’:

“The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11

It’s a reminder that no matter how challenging the path, God is guiding us through—even in the dry and rugged places. And like those hikes, life in the Color Street family has brought me to new vistas and adventures, always with the promise of something beautiful on the horizon.
