The Power of Storytime
A Journey from Bedtime Snuggles to a Heartwarming Book Drive
My Love for Reading and Sharing Stories
When my kids were young, bedtime was a magical time. Snuggling up with a good book was a cherished routine, and I loved every moment of it. Each of my three kids had their own unique relationship with reading. One of my children wasn’t initially fond of books until we stumbled upon Roald Dahl’s whimsical tales. That year, we devoured every single one of his books together. My other child was a Star Wars fanatic, eagerly consuming every book related to the galaxy far, far away. And then there was my voracious reader, just like me, with whom I shared thrilling series like Divergent and Twilight. I still remember the excitement of waiting in line at Walmart for the midnight release of a sequel so we could be the first to read it.
Reading has always been important to me. It’s not just about the stories; it’s about the bond created during those precious moments. Now, as a grandmother, I continue this tradition of snuggling up with my grandkids for storytime. The joy on their faces when they hear a new story is priceless, and it brings back fond memories of those special times with my own children.
Exciting News from Color Street
As someone who loves to read and understands the profound impact it can have, I am thrilled to share some exciting news. Color Street is hosting their National Conference in Columbus, Ohio later this July, and they are determined to make a positive impact on the community. One of the ways they plan to do this is through a book drive in partnership with The Center for Family Safety and Healing.
The Center for Family Safety and Healing: Making a Difference
The Center for Family Safety and Healing is a remarkable organization that provides a wide range of safety services to families in the area. Books play a significant role in their mission. As they explain:
“Children’s books significantly impact the families and children we serve at the Center for Family Safety and Healing by fostering a love for reading, promoting literacy, and providing a sense of comfort and normalcy. There is a book cart in our center’s lobby where children and families can pick out a book to take home. These books become valuable resources for children undergoing challenging assessments, offering them a means of distraction, education, and emotional support.”
